Gabe's father was an architect and his mother is a painter. He studied music composition at Oberlin College. After college he worked as a film editor and visual effects artist. He is a founding partner at the design/production company The Wilderness where he has worked as a director, designer, cinematographer, editor and animator. He's helmed campaigns and projects for leading brands including: Ad Council, American Express, Brahma, Chase, Coca-Cola, Dominos, History, Kraft, Mentos, Pepsi, Puma, Reebok, Sprout, Target, Verizon, VH1 and Walmart. As well as music videos for such artists as Seun Kuti, Passion Pit, Antipop Consortium, Gordon Voidwell, The Antlers and The Juan MacLean. From this background Imlay derives a unique aesthetic that he brings to his work as a creative.
Utilizing stark framing and various natural lighting technics Gabe has derived his style from years of graphic design practice. Gabe has worked in stop motion, various film formats, process photography, time-lapse, old tube cameras, motion control, table top and is very interested in attaching unusual objects to the end of a camera.
